This is a handmade Cutting Board. Crafted with:
- Spalted Hard Figured Maple.
- Young Figured Maple.
- Sultry Walnut.

One of the most demanded designs, all material is meticulously selected by hand and each piece is slowly and carefully produced.

~THE PHYLOSOPHY:

The Philosophy is the interpretation and juxtaposition of the beautiful life and death.
- The Spalted, figured maple being reincarnated maple wood from the same younger, figured maple wood you see in the piece.
- What you hold in hand is a picture frozen in time, showing two same woods at different times in their lives.

~THE STORY OF SPALTED WOOD:

In certain climates, under specific conditions, mother nature intervenes at the perfect time, and transforms a dead tree into a work of art.
Spalting is a natural process that occurs when fungi colonize dead wood, and leave behind brilliant hues and interesting patterns in the grain.
This organic process that takes 1-3 years.

Recovered during spalting, it is brought in to go through another 3-5+ years of drying cycles - the wood is then aged and dried in a humidity controlled environment.
Upon successful completion of phased drying, the resulting wood is dense, strong, and adorned with extravagant battle scars left behind by competing fungi, complimenting the tree’s natural figure.

Once the spalted wood arrives at the Blossom Woodworking woodshop, it undergoes a month-long, proprietary strengthening process, for an overall process that can take up to 7 years, producing wood that feels natural to the touch, strong, and safe for use as a daily cutting board.
With a new lease on life, the wood can live for another century.
PHD researched for over five years, the materials are 100% safe for most extensive food and chopping use (*reference Dr. Sarah Robinson).

Juxstapositioned to the spalted is exactly with a carefully selected and crafted - pearl like - quilted - "burly" - and more, hard white maple, each Blossom piece has an incredible deep glow, traveling when you look from different angles.

Your Spalted wood comes from ethically operating forest men and women, primarily from Washington State, but also, sometimes, the team travels around the country to find just the right Spalted wood. We always aim to source ethically recovered trees, which takes extensive effort and connections, but makes it that much more special to share.

Each piece is prepared to withstand extensive use, including meats and butcher knifes.
